Youth Art Clubs are Popular in Velingrad, Bulgaria
During the opening events in Velingrad for artist Rumen Rakshiev and master craftswoman Nedyalka Ruseva Rakshieva I met a woman who hosts three art clubs for children. Each group meets one day a week. Some of the children she works with attended my exhibition through their regular school activities and had expressed to their club that they “wished to meet the artist”. Through chance, I was fortunate to meet with this fine woman who gives so much of her time. After hearing her story, I offered to let her children have the opportunity to carve their own egg. We agreed to meet on the 23rd and 24th of October for any of the children who wanted to come. Since these children already have an interest in art it was easier to get them to open up and converse with me. We still needed translators for the most part, but once we got down to the creating, words were not really needed.

And finally, there was an international symposium held in Velingrad during these days. Some of the participants stopped by the museum at just the right time so they also had a chance to take off their professional hat and put on their artist’s beret.
All in all, two wonderful days sharing art!
