Results From the 7th Annual Utah Valley Carving Show
This is the first of two installments showing the results of the 7th Annual Utah Valley Wood Sculpture Show, Competition and Sale. The show had a new venue this year, the Scera Center for the Arts in Orem, Utah. The date was November 2nd and 3rd. The folks of the Utah Valley Woodcarvers club did a great job presenting over 200 entries for this year’s show. There was some amazing art shown for the public to consider.
My students are improving their skills and here you can see their entries and the awards they received.
Due to obligations of school and work Justine only had one piece to offer for this show. She is competing as a novice and there was some stiff competition in the gourd category this year. The judges decision gave her a third place call. A great showing for her second attempt at carving gourds.
This show was Kimberly’s first show competing as a novice. Prior to this show she entered her art in the youth division. She had a good showing in the gourd category. The judges thought her work worthy of mention. She is grateful for the judges opinion that her work is of note.
Seeking to broaden her artistic expression Kimberly completed a second wood burning after the Utah State Fair contest. She is shown here with that piece and the awards given by the judges. When Kimberly saw her ribbons on Friday morning she could hardly contain herself. Even when she went to bed that night she was still excited about the results of this piece.
This is the best part of my art, sharing my knowledge and watching the skills of those I teach improve. The life and value lessons they learn from these experiences will guide them to believe in themselves for all their lives.
