Results from the 2014 Great Salt Lake Carving Show

In a previous post I wrote about a number of children who spent a little time with the Paragraver Power Pen and a wood burner. I thought their pieces were good enough to be entered in the 2014 Great Salt Lake Woodcarving Show and Competition. Apparently, the judges thought similarly. Here are a few photos to show how well they did.

The ribbons in Bradly’s hands are for his egg which he is holding and for his pyrography entry.

Here is Addi. She matched her brother exactly, two first place awards as well!

Elli is certainly not going to be left out, again 2 first place awards for efforts well done.

Terrasun’s story is a little different. She has quite a strong natural artistic ability. When I saw what she could do with such a limited time carving eggshells I thought we should enter her as a Novice instead of Beginner. She certainly did not disappoint. She swept the awards available, 1st and second!

In closing, I want to introduce my friend, Chris Simpson. He has been carving wood for a while now but went unnoticed for the most part. After a strong effort and much encouraging I convinced Chris to enter some of his creations in this show as well. I am glad he gave in to my wishes. This is how he placed in his first show ever.

Congratulations to everyone. I am truly impressed

Very well done to all of above. The kids are adorable and their awards well deserved. Chris’s too!

Thanks Steven, The day the children saw their awards was priceless. I sent photos on my phone to the respective parents and asked that the children not be told until they could see their ribbons first hand. That experience was the highlight of the show. I have more to post later about another carver who represented well at the show.

Thank you for investing in these kids
    as you have Brian.
Just looking at their faces you can see
they’ll remember this for a long time.

Thanks Dean. I have spoken with each of them since the show. They are all excited to have another go at this egg carving thing. And even more exciting is the siblings of these children want to try also. Perhaps the next update will have some new faces to introduce.

Always great to see what Brian does, but when he goes out of his way for kids, well, special points in my book!

Thanks Marilyn. Your help is always appreciated. Wasn’t it fun watching them discover the results at the show?

Thank you John. I would love to see them find success through their art. The more we teach the ability to use our creativity and imagination the better the future of our youth will be.
