Art Exhibitions in Bulgaria for Rumen Rakshiev and Nedyalka Rackshieva
Svetla Rakshieva is a respected friend and a talent artist. Her father, Rumen Rakshiev spent his life creating art in many different media. Svetla’s mother, Nedyalka Ruseva Rakshieva also practices very fine needlework created with sewing needles.
I was fortunate to be in Bulgaria at the same time Svetla offered art exhibitions of her father’s art. The first was in Sofia, Bulgaria on the 26th of December. The displays included numerous book illustrations, gourd art, pottery, drawings, paintings and pen and ink. I feel Mr. Rakshiev and I have a similar frame of commonality. He worked in whatever medium that caught his attention and became a master in each of them. I too prefer to work in multiple media and hope to master them as I develop my skills. He has become a role model for me. To know that a person can follow his passion and work as inspiration directs will help me in my future endeavors.

The second exhibition that Svetla coordinated, opened on 16 October 2014 in Velingrad, Bulgaria. This event had representation form both her father and mother. Rumen created such a large body of work that it allowed Svetla to offer some different works in the second show. Her mother’s needlework comprised a parallel exhibition. Needlework is still very important in Bulgarian culture and these skills are passed from generation to generation.

Nedyalka Ruseva Rakshiev Velingrad Bulgaria Exhibition 66 October 2014
I am honored to have been invited to both of these exhibitions and offer my gratitude to Svetla for both the invitations and for sharing the talents of her parents with the public. I was inspired to continue to create and perhaps a few other visitors will also see the possibilities that artistic expression can bring to them. With Svetla’s permission, I am including a few photographs from each exhibition.
